Rose Willow gets a facelift
A team of carpentry students volunteers from South Staffordshire College led by their lecturer Roy Carvel, spent two days this week giving the Lichfield Trust narrowboat Rose Willow located on Tamworth Road a well earned face lift in readiness for the July Lichfield in Bloom 2019 entry.
The students replaced the timber cabin roof which last year was loaded with a mass of colourful flowers and helped Lichfield gain a Gold Award in the 2018 Lichfield in Bloom entry. The timber sides to the boat hold area were strengthened by the students to allow the hold to be filled with soil, which will be planted up with shrubs and perennials to create an attractive and colourful display for this years 2019 entry for Lichfield in Bloom.
The students also undertook repairs to the foredeck of Rose Willow and provided a new timber fore deck. We are most greatful to the student volunteers and to South Staffs College for allowing this valuable work experience to be timetabled into a busy calendar and also providing the Lichfield Canal with a very visible boost to the restoration work of the Trust.
The Trust are still looking for anyone who has any spare shrubs or perennial plants they can donate to fill Rose Willow with flowers at the end of June. We've got plenty of plug plants but need some bigger shrubs and a Scots pine. Please let us know if you can help. info@lhcrt.org.uk
