Today we were being judged for the Canal & River Trust Living Waterways Award.
Peter met the adjudicators and escorted them around Fosseway Heath
Nature Reserve and Wetlands where in addition to our own volunteers, other
groups included Walsall College and South Staffordshire College students and
lecturers, Queens Croft school, a fist-time corporate group from Dimension Data
were puddling clay and filling sandbags, the green team were maintaining the
towpath, and there were representatives of the Scouts and Chasetown Civil
Engineering.
Engineering Director Peter Buck said "Thank you to all the 50 (yes 50 !) volunteers, friends and
sponsors who turned out today at Fosseway to volunteer and make the Lichfield
Canal a reality. In addition it was great to see many of the regular users with
dogs making use of this section of the Heritage Towpath Trail. The two assessors
for the CRT Living Waterways Award Scheme were with us today and spoke with
most of those present on site, and I believe they were impressed with the work of
the volunteers, but they have gone away to make their recommendations for the
awards which will be made known in September. Thanks to all involved , you were
all stars!"
