First the good news.
We are pleased that the path back to some kind of
normality has now started. After carrying out an indepth risk assessment and
following the Government's 'five steps to safer working together', some of our
volunteers were able to start back on site during the second week of June. We
have put in place strict and controlled measures for social distancing and
hygiene, to make sure we will be 'Staying COVID-19 Secure in 2020' and
beyond.

The bad news. Thieves overnight broke through the Lichfield Canal steel compound fence at Gallows Reach and stole our petrol concrete mixer, which had only just been returned to the restoration team following a rebuild during which it was fitted with a new gearbox and mixer drum.
The concrete mixer has been in regular use by the volunteers restoring the heritage towpath wall at Gallows Reach as part of the restoration of the Lichfield Canal for the community. As a charity the Lichfield Canal Trust will have to find the money to replace this mixer to keep the Volunteers busy and the restoration moving forward.
Many local people now use the Nature Trail created by the Trust along this
section at Gallows Reach, did you see any suspicious activity on Sunday or
Monday?
Now more good news... Following the appeal posted on Facebook, we have received (or will do) over £385 in
donations in just a few days.
Steve has sourced a reconditioned mixer for £275, so we have covered the cost and will be collecting it at the weekend. Thanks so much to everyone who has donated!
