Sandfields Pumping Station

Historic but now disused Sandfields Pumping Station stands to the east of Railway Turn and is visible along a footpath over the bed of the old canal line. The building still contains a splendid early example of a steam beam engine dating from 1875. The adjacent canal was used for cooling water for the steam engines although the steam coal was provided via the adjacent rail siding.

In 2014 the Engine House at Sandfields Pumping Station was granted Grade II* listed status on the List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest.
