On December 3rd about 85 people gathered at the Boat Inn for a guided walk along the Summerhill section down as far as the M6 Toll Aqueduct. Our Engineering Director Peter Buck took the walkers on an almost two hour trip packed with information about the history, the future plans and what has been achieved here over the last two years. The group paused to hear about the sand wharf, the ‘south pole’ (an electricity pole), the quarry and planned Marina, met some volunteers working on the towpath trail and saw the Green Team scrub bashing. Down at the aqueduct and in spite of the noise from the M6 Peter told of plans for an electrically operated deep lock to raise the canal to the level of the aqueduct, and the soon to be built Towpath Trail path over the Aqueduct. Then it was time for questions followed by a brisk walk back to the pub!
