On Wednesday at Gallows Reach we had a visit from the Sea Salt senior anagement Team together with the manager of the local Sea Salt retail store at Heart of the Country for a corporate volunteer half day on the Lichfield Canal.
After introductions to Chris Bull and a brief tool box talk given by Peter, the team from Sea Salt set about the task of installing timber edging to the new off side Nature Trail, before placing a geotextile membrane and stone filling to the new path. The weather was good to us and the Sea Salt volunteers worked hard for the afternoon, loading wheelbarrows with recycled path stone from the Trust Trailer, placing and levelling the stone along the line of the path and consolidating the stone with our vibrating plate compactor. A new 20metre length of the Nature Trail Stone path was completed by the Sea Salt team volunteers during the afternoon and we made time for a guided tour of the adjacent Gold Award winning Gallows Wharf and Garden of Reflection.
The Lichfield Canal Trust are so grateful for the work carried out by the Sea Salt team and we are looking forward to seeing them on site again, hopefully very soon. A thanks also to our own regular Trust volunteers who made sure all the tools, plant and materials were in place for the Sea Salt corporate volunteers and cleared away at the end of the afternoon.
