Paragraph
Blooming Lichfield won the GOLD award in this year's Heart of England in Bloom awards.
Congratulations to all who played a part in this event.
All the representatives of the teams, including our own Trust volunteers, were invited to
the Mayor's parlour to celebrate the wonderful result.
The Judges commented “2017 saw new judges for Blooming Lichfield and a change in the weather! The incessant
rain however could not dampen the enjoyment and pleasure that we had on the well
managed judging route, which was supervised with aplomb by Richard Lewis and not
forgetting Nick Burton from Lichfield City Council who constantly appeared ensuring that
the judges gained the most from all contributors. Swinfen Hall Hotel was the ideal start
and this high standard was kept up with visits to, among many others, Lichfield and
Hatherton Canal Restoration Trust, Beacon Park, Andrews House and our walk through
the City Centre.”
They then went on to highlight 19 areas of achievement in Lichfield including work
carried out by LHCRT volunteers:
TheJudges also expressed a particular wish to come back next year to see progress on the restoration of the Lichfield Canal. You can read the Judges Comments in full here.
Planning is in hand for next year’s event. One suggestion is that we plant poppies for
next years "ribbon of poppies" to commemorate 100 years since end of WW1. We can
always take on board some new green fingered volunteers to help, you can get in touch
with LHCRT through our volunteering webpage.
