While the main focus of the Trust's work is on the Lichfield Canal let us not forget that the Hatherton Canal needs to be maintained too.
Towards the end of 2016, CRT and their contractors carried out considerable works on the canal, from the rear of the Roman Way Hotel through to the M6 motorway. Grass and scrub growth were cut back hard, right from the towpath hedge bottom to the water's edge, and offside tree growth also received attention.
The water channel itself, being feeder to Gailey Reservoir and the Staffordshire and Worcester Canal, was cleared of fallen trees, weed growth was cut and some reed beds and obstructions were dredged out.
At Scrawper's Bridge, Oak Lane, a new footbridge and control sluice for the leat to Gailey Reservoir has been installed.
