Last year you did us proud. We had match funding of £3,500, so were aiming to raise £3,500 for a total of £7,000. You lovely people went over and above that and we received £8,406 in donations.
This year’s Big Give Christmas Challenge will go live on 29th November and we’re aiming to raise £18,750 in just one week - to put towards the cost of the new liftbridge near Longbridge Road.

Lichfield and Hatherton Canals Restoration Trust are taking part in the BigGive Christmas Challenge again in 2022 and hope to raise enough money to pay for the lift bridge near Longbridge Road. In just one week!
Donations to the project will be generously matched by the trust’s supporters during the campaign meaning your money will be doubled. One donation, twice the impact!
Sadly we weren’t chosen for champion funding, so our target is lower than we hoped. Even so, pledges of £18,750 have already been made which will be used to match funds raised during the week. So the Trust could potentially raise £37,500!

An environment for the future created by everyone
Using our existing teams of volunteers, their friends and families and Lichfield
residents to enhance and extend the green corridor as we restore a derelict
canal. Our actions, enhancing biodiversity, will raise awareness of how local
people can contribute to improving their environment.
Situation
The restored canal will cut across a right of way, between Longbridge Road and Tamworth Road. Once the canal is restored, residents would need to take a lengthy diverted route from their homes to the shops and main road, unless we provide direct access with a footbridge. We are obliged by law to ensure that the right of way is passable.
We are a volunteer-led charity and need to fund our work through fundraising and donations. This appeal is vital to raise the money for this essential bridge.
Solution
We currently provide over 5 miles of heritage-towpath and nature trails, a fantastic blue-green corridor. The liftbridge will allow direct access across the canal for those enjoying the towpath and nature trails. It will normally remain in a locked-down position enabling pedestrians to cross the channel and only be temporarily lifted to allow boats to pass along the canal.
The appeal will fund the manufacture, supply and installation of a bespoke liftbridge by a certified bridge manufacturer.
