In 2009 a new David Suchet Appeal was launched with the aim of raising the first £1million towards opening the Lichfield Canal as far as Darnford. After the success of the previous David Suchet Appeals we are once again hoping that our supporters will be generous.
In 2015 it has become necessary to refocus the David Suchet Appeal in order to raise £1million+ towards a new tunnel under the Lichfield to Birmingham railway line.
Otherwise 25 years of successful restoration could be “stopped in its tracks” and placed beyond reach.
In 2014 we launched the “Feet of Clay” appeal. Lichfield Canal Pound 27 by Tamworth Road is ready for progressive watering, with puddled clay preferred for the lining. Sometimes traditional methods are the best!
10 square feet of clay laid to the required depth cost £15.00 so our target of 27,000 square feet will cost over £40,000. (We also need a lot of concrete for where tradditional methods are not best suited.)
A donation of £20 to The Brick Appeal pays for a square metre of bricks to help with restoration of locks and other features. Donations of £20 or more will receive a miniature presentation brick.
Following the success of the first David Suchet Appeal a number of donors said they would like to continue paying a regular amount to assist the Trust in continuing to go from strength to strength.
The Regular Giving Scheme was launched in November 2003. Supporters can choose whether to make a donation to the Land Fund or the general Restoration Fund.
